70km of MTB ecstasy! If the hills don't take your breath away the views surely will! This would have to be one of New Zealand's most stunning Mountain Bike races. Starting in Colville, the race takes you over the Whangapoua hill onto the dramatic coastline of the north eastern Coromandel. Riders then round the remote northern tip of the Coromandel via a dedicated MTB track across DoC land. On your vertical climb to 500m along the way catch awesome views of Great Barrier Island. A couple more hills need to be tackled before returning down the coast road to Colville through unspoilt coastline. There is also a shorter 24km track for those who want an introduction to the area. Get along and find out why the Coromandel is a haven for adrenaline seeking MTBers. Check out the webvideo
The event will feature three rides again, all based at Colville School 72 km Kona Colville Connection – marathon circumnavigation of the northern tip of the peninsula 40 km Ground Effect Get on Yer Bike – no prisoners taken rugged ride for off-road diehards 24km Jungle Safari – shorter ride crossing the peninsula to Waikawau Beach and back |

Explore a hidden art trail in fantastic surroundings! Coromandel Town on the Coromandel Peninsula at first glance seems a quaint but sleepy little town. Tucked away in studios all over town are artists, many who have traveled from other countries to live and work in its stunning scenery and to be part of its creative community. However, they are planning to show themselves for the Great Coromandel Arts Tour, which will run for nine days .
This will be the opportunity for visitors to see artists at work, and purchase artwork direct from a whole range of artists whose studios may not otherwise be open to the public. This will be a well co-ordinated event: new work from established (i.e., Barry Brickell) and emerging artists, guaranteed opening times for the studios, clear signage (in the form of that local icon the mussel buoy) and good directions to the individual studio locations. The art ranges from pottery, sculpture, clothing and accessories, wood carving, doll making, textiles, ironwork, painting, print-making and jewellery.
Music, poetry readings and theatre/multi media events also featured throughout the tour dates. A combined map/brochure/ticket cost$12, and has photos and descriptions of each artists's work, as well as the locations of their studios and contact information. Details of evening events will also be included.
